Who are the twins?
The twins are not based on anyone in particular. “Dorie” represents a special person I created to represent a number of things good. I first created her personality then conjured up a “look”; on advice of a friend, who also wrote novels, I began looking through hairstyle magazines to see if I could somehow match a model with the image that was in my mind.
After reviewing literally dozens of hair magazines, I finally came across an image of a model named Jodi, who was at the time modeling in Miami Beach. After some searching, I located her, and she agreed to let me use her image for my twins; she sent me several more “somber” images to use for Beth. Ironically, Jodi ended up being very much like the fictitious “Dorie” - fun, spunky, kind, very intelligent. When we first met in person, it was surreal sitting across from her at the restaurant; it was like having lunch with Dorie; Jodi's even left-handed! It dawned on me later, "What if she had been like Beth?" LOL. In truth, "Beth" had her own positives, too.
“Dorie” was originally named Andrea; but one evening I saw an interview on PBS of an author named “Dorie” and the name really caught my attention; so, I decided to use it. Her twin “Beth” was always named that because I’ve always liked the name. “Dorie” is outgoing, spunky, fun-loving, very intelligent, and loves music, whereas “Beth” is a quiet, no-frills woman who prefers to observe and thrives on her work. The twins are mirror-image identical twins; "Dorie" is left-handed, and "Beth" is right-handed.
I’ve known several twins over the course of my life; but most were fraternal. So I did extensive research on twins, especially identical twins, and tried to base the sister’s relationship on some of the stories I read.
